Welcome to the Health Workforce Australia website

As the Australian health workforce faces a period of major reform, this website aims to update you with information on:

  • Australia's health workforce
  • health workforce planning
  • activities of the various national health workforce advisory committees that report to the Australian Health Ministers' Advisory Council (AHMAC) and Australian Health Ministers. The workforce committees structure shows how they work together.

In Australia, government supported health workforce planning and research occurs at both the national and State/Territory levels. Australia-wide activities are undertaken by the National Health Workforce Taskforce (NHWT) overseen and co-ordinated by the Health Workforce Principal Committee (HWPC).

The HWPC is AHMAC's principal advisor on national health workforce policy and strategic priorities.

The Australian health workforce is about to undergo significant reform.
